A screaming comes across the sky . . .

I recently finished reading Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow . I've been wanting to read it for some time now; I finally bought the paperback partially because of the Frank Miller cover. I read it without the help of a companion volume; I'm reading the companion volume soon to figure out what happened.

Zak Smith was so moved by the book that he made an illustration for every page of the book. Smith's book can be found here.

I gave the illustrated GR to a friend of mine as a gift when he changed jobs. He's read GR like 5 times and was responsible for introducing me to it. The illustrations are pretty cool, but I was a little disappointed with it as a whole.

Have you read _The Crying of Lot 49_? It's a lot like GR in tone. Pynchon wrote it while taking a break from writing GR. It's clear he wrote it comparatively quickly, but I think it's pretty awesome too.

i read crying of lot 49 a long time ago. i don't remember much about it save for something about the post office. i feel like i'm too dumb to read his novels. i'm reading the guide to GR right now and it's shedding some light, but i still feel like i'm missing a lot. i'll have to re-read the novel again in a few years. and i should probably re-read 49. :/
